Auf geht’s [1] is the perfect book for you to get started with your German journey if you do not have any previous knowledge at all. It is suitable for both German learners in Germany as well as absolute beginners outside of Germany who are interested in both learning the basic language skills as well as obtaining a unique perspective on aspects of German culture. Basic Grammar
On one hand, this series of, as of now, four books will carefully guide you through the basic grammar concepts. As it seeks to be as uncomplicated as possible, it is perfect for absolute beginners with little time who want to quickly get a basic understanding. From the forms of "sein" and "haben" to the articles in German: Those concepts will help you to introduce the most important daily phrases to get by in German without diving deeper into advanced grammar topics.
Core Vocabulary
In order to do so, each unit in this book utilizes a set of 20 - 30 new words per unit besides the grammar theme. They will be introduced in smaller portions of five to ten items through conversations and exercises. For each exercise, there is a free YouTube video available which slowly reads out the content again in order to familiarize yourself with the correct pronunciation. At the end of each unit, the vocabulary section allows the students once more to have a look at the complete word set and test the comprehension through a short quiz.

Various Exercises and Tests
The content will be practiced in separate reading, listening, writing and speaking exercises on the following pages. In order to allow students to grow beyond learning a language, regular team exercises and creative tasks shall enhance both social as well as creative thinking skills as well. In order to allow educators to differentiate learner's capabilities, each unit furthermore offers a set of advanced tasks to challenge students.
Beyond Language
As this book was written under the theme of promoting intercultural dialogue, it seeks to offer more. Besides language skills, four additional short chapters furthermore provide a unique perspective on aspects all around German culture and intercultural understanding. This shall invite to “go beyond”: to challenge stereotypes and foster curiosity beyond learning a language, for instance. This does not require being fluent in the actual language and can bring so many other valuable benefits.
