Let's talk about
the "SDGs"!

On January 1st, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (short: SDGs) officially came into force. Those 17 goals in different areas of life incorporate progressive ideas on how to make the world a better place for all based on the principles of peace, equality and harmony. Many of these ideas had been discussed by international experts working for the United Nations (short: UN) already for a certain amount of time but only in a historic UN Summit in September 2015, they were finally adopted by world leaders. Since then, actors all around the world have been cooperating to ensure that these ambitious goals are met by 2030. However, to understand this grand vision better, it is worth exploring what is considered “development” in the first place.

To ensure that those four key principles are realized, international
actors have defined the 17 so-called Sustainable Development Goals together. From reducing hunger worldwide, SDG 2, to improving consumption patterns, SDG 12, from creating a more gender-equal world, SDG 5, to ensuring quality education for all, SDG 4: This list provides a comprehensive plan how to realize a better future.
